Tips & Tricks for writing better poetry

Poetry may be a fascinating and freeing experience for poets of all ages and levels of experience. Poets can play with form and traditions while yet producing deeply compelling work when they write poetry. If you’ve always wanted to be the next Hemingway or Pramod Rajput, it is always a good idea to work on your existing poetry skills.

Pramod Rajput is a prominent Hindi/Urdu poet and writer who was born in a small hamlet in Bihar, India, and is now a US citizen. His debut book, “AA JEE LEIN ZARA” in Hindi, which has a compilation of 100 ghazals and nazms, has been in print since September 2019 and is well received. He has also written two romance novels in English and Hindi, “SEVEN COLORS OF LOVE” and “SAAT RANG PYAAR KE.” Many of his prose have been set to music and are now accessible as songs. His books are sold all around the world on Amazon.

He shared a few tips for being a successful poet, which is listed below.

Let your subject seek you

Admittedly, everyone has a niche they are good at writing. You don’t seek out your subject; it seeks you out. It’s not just a matter of love; it is also a desire to resurrect, preserve, or do things that push back against the reality of our mortality. The best poems are written not by entering the subject’s front door but by walking around the back, down the chimney, or through the window.

Read a wide range of poets.

Reading poetry is the most basic approach to improving your poetry. You may be familiar with classic poets but unaware of modern and new poems. Finding new poetry collections and reading current literary publications to expose yourself to fresh voices is integral to becoming a more vital poet.

Experiment with various poetic forms.

There are various poems you can select. Even if you have a favorite sort of poem, it’s worth exploring with diverse poetry genres. Try crafting a haiku or other short poem. Write a more powerful free-verse narrative poem. Make a few nursery rhymes in a hurry. Playing with form can aid in the development of your poetry writing talents as well as the discovery of new styles of poetry that suit your tastes.

Explore new poetic realms

The various literary strategies and poetic styles at your disposal are one of the most intriguing aspects of poetry. In your work, you can use alliteration and assonance to generate a variety of sounds. Extending metaphors and employing shorthand or synonymy in your writing might help to make your work more meaningful. Investigate different poetic strategies and try combining them into your poems.

Remember, there are no limits

There are no clear and fast rules in poetry. Allow yourself to experiment with form and substance in your work. Don’t be hesitant to attempt new things or be worried about the outcome. You will do wonders once you will let go of the constraint in your mind.

Poem writing does not preclude you from experimenting with other genres of writing. However, the beginning and end of your prose is the most crucial part. Spend some extra time constructing an excellent start after you’ve finished your first draught. When you’re done, write a good ending that will make readers want to read more of your work. Make them curious and desire to learn more. In your spare time, write nonfiction pieces and short tales to supplement your poetry writing. This will keep your work new and lively and can also be a terrific way to increase your income as a writer.
