Top tips for wardrobe organisation

A good wardrobe isn’t just about having enough space to hang your clothes and keep them organised. It’s about having the right kind of storage so that you can find what you need at a glance, and make the most of your available space.

If this is your first time organising your wardrobe, take some time to think about what you need from it. Think about how often you wear each item, and whether it needs to be hung up or folded away. Make a list of everything in your current wardrobe and any items that need to go in there too. Then prioritise what goes where – do you want everything visible? Or will it be easier if some things are out of sight? Once you’ve decided where everything should go, choose the best place for each item based on these criteria: does it fit in with the rest of my clothing? Is it easy to get at? Does it need to be kept clean? Can I see it easily? Does it occupy valuable space?

It’s amazing how much space you can save by hanging your clothes vertically. Hanging trousers, for example, takes up about half the space of a pair folded and hung on a hanger. As well as saving space, you’ll also find it easier to see what you have in your wardrobe.

Keep like with like. Once you’ve sorted your clothes into categories, store them together so that when you’re looking for something specific, it’s easy to find. For example, keep all your jumpers together in one drawer or on one shelf. Use clear plastic containers with lids if possible to make it easier to see what’s inside each container.

Find a home for everything – even things that don’t belong in here! If you have old paperwork like receipts or letters that don’t need keeping but don’t want to throw away, use an inbox tray or basket on top of a shelf so they’re out of sight but still accessible when needed (and not cluttering up the floor!).

Tidy up and declutter regularly. Don’t let clothes pile up in your wardrobe as this will just make it harder to organise in future. If you want to be more organised with your wardrobe, try switching out seasonal items every six months so they don’t get lost amongst everything else!

Use clear storage boxes and baskets so you can see what’s inside at a glance – this can especially come in handy if there’s lots of stuff you’re not currently using but want to keep for later on down the line (such as Christmas jumpers). Be sure to label each box clearly too so you know exactly what’s inside without having to rummage through everything first! To know more information on, top tips for organisation.
